The Second Bite

Did you know that vampires are real?  Well, they don't exactly live under bridges or in caves waiting to drain the blood from our delicate bodies.  And, no, they don't live in mansions like the infamous Cullens,  though there are some of you who wish that tiny fact was true.  No, these vampires live in our homes. Our bedrooms.  Our hands. They are our electronic devices! They steal "vampire power" from our walls while we sleep, work, and get away on vacation.  Often this continual feeding causes our appliances and devices to shut down on us. This continual sucking can be a potential threat to our safety as well, causing everything we love and hold dear to burn!  How do we avoid this?  How do we stop everything from overworking, or shutting down, or even going up in flames?  We unplug!

The same is true of ourselves. "Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you."  Sometimes we need to unplug from everything around us, and take some time to take care of ourselves.

Take some time to talk to God.

Take some time to listen to Mother Nature.

Take some time to let ourselves cry and relieve all the stress we have been carrying like a heavy burden on our backs for days and days.

My mother always reminds me that crying is so good for the soul.  Can you tell that I cry often!  It is so beautiful how our loved ones truly empathize with us when we unplug and share with them what is going on in our lives.

Did you know that elephants are one of God's most empathetic creatures.  That means that they truly sense and respond to the sadness and pain felt by  others.  When they know that one of their herd is sick or injured, they slow down for them.  They won't leave them behind.  When they know that one of them is dying, they have been seen trying to lift them up and calling out in distress.  It is so moving.

So take this second bite today, unplug.  Talk to God or someone you love who will listen.  You are going to make it!
